SUMMARY:Outdoor Mindfulness Walk at Oak Hill Cemetery
DESCRIPTION:Susan West Montgomery will lead a guided meditation at Oak Hill Cemetery. \n\n\nOak Hill Cemetery is an historic place\, a consoling place\, a place of healing and repose. We invite you to experience Oak Hill in all its many forms through an outdoor mindfulness experience. You will be welcomed to slow down\, be curious\, and to use all your senses to connect with this remarkable place.\n\nOutdoor mindfulness is akin to Shinrin-yoku\, or forest bathing\, a Japanese wellness practice that helps individuals access the healing properties of nature. Research shows that extended contemplative time in nature calms the mind\, promotes well-being\, and cultivates a profound sense of belonging.\n\nThe experience begins with an orientation to\, and expression of gratitude for\, the place where we will be spending our time. It includes warm-ups\, centering\, and breathing exercises\, a non-strenuous walk\, and an extended sit. We conclude with a returning ritual\, a chance to reflect on the experience and understand how the practice can be used in daily life.\n\nOur guide is Susan West Montgomery\, a Kripalu Certified Outdoor Mindfulness Guide providing outdoor mindfulness excursions in the Washington DC region and beyond. She specializes in developing customized excursions at historic and cultural sites where she can deepen the mindfulness experience by layering in the nature-culture connection.\n\nParticipants must be over 16 unless accompanied by an adult. Mats will be provided for sitting but you are welcome to bring a camp chair. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing for walking and bring water.
