In 1861\, when war erupted between the States\, President Lincoln made an impassioned plea for volunteers. Determined not to remain on the sidelines\, Emma Edmonds cropped her hair\, donned men’s clothing\, and enlisted in the Union Army. At 2:00pm\, we will be conducting dog blessings by the Georgetown Presbyterian Church. Dogs must have current shots and mix well with others. We do not require a lease at all times\, unless your dog does not play well with others. Owners are responsible for cleaning up after their dogs. Water stations will be set up around the cemetery. This is a wonderful day to enjoy a self-guided walking tour of Washington’s beautiful and iconic Cemetery\, the scenic final resting place for some of the country’s most well-known historical figures. \nPlease note that the cemetery is on a hill\, comfortable walking shoes are encouraged. The trees were donated to us by Casey Trees\, a nonprofit organization who’s mission is to plant trees\, engage thousands of volunteers of all ages in tree planting and care\, provide year-round continuing education courses\, monitor the city’s tree canopy\, develop interactive online tree tools and work with elected officials\, developers\, and community groups to protect and care for existing trees and to encourage the addition of new ones.
